Avondale Camissa 2025 Organic Rosé
Avondale Camissa 2025 is an elegant, completely dry organic rosé from Paarl in South Africa. It is made from Grenache, Muscat de Frontignan and Mourvèdre grapes grown in Avondale’s certified organic vineyards.
Expressive aromas of rose petals, scented geranium, fresh red berries, Turkish delight and lemon zest lead to a smooth, fresh and delicately textured palate. The aromatic character may initially suggest a touch of sweetness, but the wine finishes clean, balanced and completely dry.
Is this wine organic and natural?
Organic: Yes. The grapes come from certified organic vineyards.
Biodynamic: Avondale uses biodynamic farming practices to support healthy soils, biodiversity and the natural balance of the vineyard.
Natural winemaking: Camissa is naturally fermented using wild yeasts and produced with minimal intervention. The winery limits unnecessary additives, allowing the character of the grapes and vineyard to remain at the centre of the wine.
How is it made?
The Muscat de Frontignan spends three to four days on its skins before natural fermentation begins in stainless-steel tanks.
The Grenache and Mourvèdre grapes are whole-bunch pressed and fermented in used 500-litre French oak barrels. The separate wines are then matured on their lees for 12 months before blending and bottling.
This careful process gives Camissa more texture, depth and complexity than a typical light rosé.
Tasting profile
- Style: Dry, aromatic rosé
- Aromas: Rose petals, scented geranium and fresh red berries
- Flavours: Red fruit, Turkish delight and lemon zest
- Palate: Fresh, smooth and gently creamy
- Finish: Clean, elegant and completely dry
How to drink it
Serve chilled at approximately 9–11°C.
For the best flavour, remove the bottle from the fridge around 10–15 minutes before serving. Use a medium-sized white wine glass rather than a very small rosé glass, allowing the floral aromas to open fully.
Camissa does not need to be decanted. It can be enjoyed now for its freshness and aromatic character, or kept until approximately 2029.
Once opened, reseal the bottle and keep it refrigerated. It is best enjoyed within two to three days.
Food pairing
Camissa is a versatile food wine and pairs particularly well with:
- Grilled salmon or tuna
- Prawns and seafood
- Roast or grilled chicken
- Goat’s cheese, Brie and Camembert
- Charcuterie and cheese boards
- Mediterranean salads
- Grilled vegetables
- Lightly spiced Thai or Asian dishes
It can also be enjoyed on its own as an elegant aperitif.
