Astobiza Txakoli Rosé 2022 is a light, crisp rosé wine from the cool, coastal hills of the Basque Country in northern Spain. It's made from a blend of two native grapes: Hondarrabi Zuri (a white grape) and Hondarrabi Beltza (a red grape), both of which are traditionally used to make Txakoli – a wine style known for its freshness, gentle spritz, and natural energy.
This wine brings something a bit special to the table – it’s not just a typical rosé. Txakoli rosé is a rare and exciting style, with zippy acidity, a touch of salty minerality (thanks to the nearby Atlantic), and soft red fruit flavours. It’s a brilliant example of what makes Basque wines so unique.
Alcohol & Style
-
Alcohol: 13.5%
-
Style: Dry, light-bodied, with a naturally slight fizz (a gentle spritz that tickles the tongue and makes it extra refreshing)
-
Look: Very pale pink – elegant and subtle in colour
Aroma & Taste
On the nose, this wine is delicate and floral, with scents of rose petals, wild strawberries, and a little citrus zest.
The flavour is crisp and lively, with notes of lemon peel, pink grapefruit, and a clean, dry, slightly salty finish – like a sea breeze in your glass. There’s just enough fruit to keep it juicy, but it stays lean and bright.
How to Serve It
-
Serve it well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C
-
Do not add ice – the wine is delicate, and ice would mute the flavours
-
Use a white wine glass to help release the aroma and enjoy the texture
-
In the Basque Country, it’s sometimes poured from a height into the glass to “wake up” the wine and enhance the fizz – fun if you want to try something different!
What to Eat With It
This wine is a fantastic partner for food – especially anything fresh, salty, or spicy:
-
Grilled seafood: prawns, squid, scallops
-
Spicy dishes: sushi with wasabi, Thai or Korean food
-
Tapas: olives, anchovies, tortilla
-
Light bites: summer salads, goat’s cheese, charcuterie
It’s also lovely as an aperitif or on its own as a sunny-day sipper.
Extra Notes & Fun Facts
-
Astobiza is a small, family-run winery that focuses on expressing the land – the wines are made with minimal intervention and respect for nature.
-
The winery is located in Álava, the inland part of the Basque region – higher altitude, cooler air, and perfect conditions for making crisp wines with natural acidity.
-
Txakoli wines are traditionally very low in alcohol and highly acidic – but this rosé version is a bit more structured and elegant, while still refreshing.
Astobiza Txakoli Rosé 2022 is the perfect wine for adventurous rosé lovers – light, elegant, with a hint of wild character. Whether you’re enjoying grilled prawns on the terrace or a spicy noodle bowl at home, this wine adds a cool, coastal twist to the moment.
